The first jaguar released in Bolivia
Returning animals to the wild is CIWY’s ultimate goal
In 2026, CIWY successfully rehabilitated and released the first jaguar in Bolivia. Rescued as a young cub from the wildfires of 2024, she spent almost two years undergoing rehabilitation before being returned to the wild in June 2026.

Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi (CIWY) received the BBVA Foundation Biodiversity Conservation Award for its sustained work over more than three decades protecting wildlife in Bolivia.
It has also been recognised by national and international institutions for its work in conservation, animal rescue, fire response, and volunteer programmes.
