Species and Ecosystem Research
Research conducted in CIWY’s sanctuaries focuses on animals under permanent care, those that are released and wild animals living within the sanctuary bounds.
CIWY uses this research to improve the care of rescued animals and share its expertise, while also helping to understand and protect the wider abundance of life within its sanctuaries, from insects and plants to mammals and birds.

Protocol Development
An important part of CIWY’s conservation work centres around developing management, rehabilitation and release protocols.
This makes the work carried out in the sanctuaries more replicable and has allowed CIWY to develop extensive expertise in these areas. Protocols are created in collaboration with national and international organisations, government departments and outside experts.
This means the knowledge developed through CIWY’s work can contribute beyond individual animals and projects.
Contributing to CIWY’s research helps ensure that knowledge gained through rehabilitation and release projects can contribute to future conservation work.
